Google Suspends Google Analytics for Iranian Users
WANA (Jan 11) – In recent days, news of Google imposing new sanctions on Iranian users has sparked widespread discussion. Iranian users have reported receiving emails announcing the suspension of their Google Analytics accounts, a move that could create significant challenges for individuals and businesses.
Google cited “inappropriate behavior” by users as one of the reasons for the suspension and referred to Clause 14 of its terms and conditions, which states that “either party may terminate the agreement at any time with prior notice.”
This decision prompted a reaction from Behzad Akbari, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Communications. In a Twitter post, Akbari stated, “The internet should not become a tool for sanctions or imposing restrictions. Google Analytics services have been suspended for Iranian users due to sanctions. This unjust decision harms businesses, startups, and individuals in Iran.”
Google Analytics is a widely-used tool for collecting and analyzing website data, making it essential for businesses, particularly in marketing. With the new restrictions, Iranian users with Google Analytics accounts are not only barred from accessing their accounts but also lose access to their historical data.

Given the importance of Google Analytics for evaluating business performance, this restriction could significantly disrupt operations. Businesses will be unable to analyze critical performance data, leaving them at a disadvantage.
The suspension has also affected some Iranian users residing outside Iran. Reports suggest that the restriction isn’t solely based on users’ current IP addresses; accounts originally created with an Iranian IP are also being blocked.
Iman Rahmati, an Iranian employee at Google, responded to a user’s post on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that he, too, received the email despite residing in the United States. He added that Google has made a final, unchangeable decision on this matter.
